Grade 4 — Reading 2

Spring is a beautiful season. In spring, the trees in the park have new green leaves. The flowers are pink, yellow, and red. There are many birds in the trees. The birds sing in the morning. They are very happy. Children play in the park every day. Some children climb the big trees. Some children run on the grass. I love spring because it is warm and sunny but not too hot. I always go to the park with my friends after school.

Last summer, my family had a picnic by the lake. We sat on a blanket under a big tree. My mother made cheese sandwiches and brought a basket of apples and cookies. The water in the lake was very cold, but my brother and I went swimming. There were many fish in the lake! We tried to catch the fish, but they were too fast. After lunch, my dad climbed a tree to look for a bird’s nest. We laughed and laughed. It was the best day of the summer.

Today is the first day of autumn. The leaves are red, yellow, and orange. Soon they will fall from the trees. After autumn comes winter. In winter, it is cold. There is white snow on the ground. I love winter because we make a snowman in our garden. We put a hat on his head and a long carrot for his nose. In winter, we can’t swim in the pool because the water is too cold. We drink hot tea inside the house and read books by the window.
